SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 4, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire at a former community health facility in downtown Salt Lake City Monday night may have been intentionally set, officials said.

Crews responded to the blaze, at 610 S. 300 East, formerly the Salt Lake City Public Health Center, at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to a news release from Fire Department spokeswoman Audra Sorensen.

About a dozen fire fighters battled the fire and were able to extinguish it in 20 minutes, Sorensen said. The damages to the building amounted to less than $1,000.

According to investigators, preliminary evidence collection indicates that the fire may have been intentionally set. In addition, a witness claims to have seen a person fleeing the scene.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone who has information is encouraged to contact the Salt Lake City Fire Department at 801-799-4150.
