HOLLADAY, Utah, Jan. 16, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Heavy black smoke greeted a Holladay resident when he opened the door to his duplex unit Monday night.

Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief Mac Lund said everyone in the duplex evacuated as the fire department responded to the scene at 2277 E. Suada (4070 South).

The fire was contained to the one unit and didn’t breach the common wall, Lund said. He estimated damages at $75,000.

Unified Police officers also responded and checked to make sure no one was in danger. Lund said a second alarm was called, but wasn’t needed. There were no injuries. The displaced resident went to a neighbor’s home after the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
