Fire in Rosewood Park area causes $5K-$7K in damage

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 8, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a fire at 1240 N. American Beauty Drive on Monday evening after calls were received reporting visible smoke and flames.

SLCFD Public Information Officer Audra Sorensen said firefighters arrived at the scene at about 7:17 p.m. to find a shed fully involved behind the main building on the property. They had the fire under control by about 7:25 p.m., and it was completely extinguished by 7:30 p.m.

Sorensen said three medic engines and a ladder truck responded, with 16 to 18 firefighters.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but officials said there currently is no indication of anything suspicious. Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $7,000.

Sorensen said the property is the site of a privately owned educational center.
