SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – September 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Heavy rain is causing problems across the Salt Lake Valley today and officials are warning drivers to take extra care and go slow.

Salt Lake City Police and Fire were called to the area of 300 East 800 South because of a significant amount of water in the road at around 11 a.m.

3300 South near I-15 in South Salt Lake closed just before 1:30 p.m. due to large amounts of standing water, but re-opened around 4 p.m. The westbound traffic lane closest to the curb still has standing water, and motorists are advised to slow down and use caution while driving in this area.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said people should steer clear of the problem areas. He said if drivers see a large puddle of water in their path and are not sure whether their car will make it through, use caution and turn around. Drivers should also be aware of the possibility of sliding out.

Asay advised drivers to focus carefully on the road but also watch out for people walking, as if they have their hoods up, for example, their vision could be limited.
