LAYTON, Utah, May 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a registered sex offender they say was using his cell phone to record women in a Layton restroom, and say there may be other victims.

Gregory Robert Shack, 53, was arrested Tuesday by Layton Police Department detectives for five counts of class A misdemeanor voyeurism using electronic equipment.

The case originated with a report to police that Shack had been seen at Layton Medical Plaza at 2950 N. Church St., loitering near the women’s restroom, according to a news release from Layton Police Department.

The responding officer learned that the man had been seen there multiple times over the previous few months by several different women.

“The women reported that the man had been loitering on a bench outside a women’s restroom, and each time they would go in and close the door, they would see shadows and movement under the door,” the news release said.

“They suspected he had been trying to record them using the bathroom. One of the women was able to get the man’s license plate number, and reported that to police.”

Detectives interviewed Shack and conducted an investigation, and learned that he had in fact been recording women using the bathroom by holding his cell phone under the door. This occurred on several occasions and involved multiple women. The investigation also revealed that Shack has done this in Bountiful, and possibly other places.

“We believe there may be additional victims in this case, and are releasing the man’s picture and asking anyone who has had an interaction with him which may be related to this type of crime to call law enforcement and report it,” the news release says.

Shack is a registered sex offender, police said.

Police are asking that anyone who suspects they may have been a victim of this type of crime involving Shack contact Layton Police Department at 801-497-8300 or local law officials in the city where it happened.
