ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah, June 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A hiker who fell 100 feet in one of Zion National Park’s narrow rock ravines Tuesday morning was rescued and taken by helicopter to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

The hiker was descending Lady Mountain at 8:40 a.m. when the fall occurred, according to information from Zion National Park.

A friend who witnessed the fall reported the incident. Park medics responded immediately, but it took close to two hours to climb to the hiker.

After the hiker was evaluated, a technical rescue team lowered the victim 135 feet to an area the helicopter could reach.

“The patient was transported by the rescue helicopter to a nearby landing zone, and was transferred to an awaiting Life Flight helicopter and crew,” the Zion news release said.
