WEST VALLEY, Utah, Feb. 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is dead after an accident in the area of 3500 South and 2400 West in West Valley City Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Nathan Croft, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily a Toyota Tundra was heading northbound on Interstate 215 West at approximately 4 p.m., went off of I-215 West at the 3500 South off-ramp and jumped the ramp to I-215 West northbound at 3500 South. The Toyota landed on 3500 South and hit an eastbound GMC Envoy.

The male driver of the Toyota pickup, the only person in that vehicle, sustained fatal injuries, and is still in the process of being identified.

The driver and female occupant of the GMC Envoy sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital; they are expected to recover.

A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation at 4:15 p.m. said SR-171 (3500 South) was closed in both directions, and the northbound I-215 West ramp to westbound 3500 South was also closed.

Investigators will look into if there were any forms of impairment that may have contributed to the crash.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
