Update: Police ID pedestrian hit, killed while crossing I-15 in Kaysville

KAYSVILLE, Utah, Feb. 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 24-year-old Layton man was hit and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 15 in Kaysville Tuesday night.

The incident occurred just before 10:15 p.m. between Layton Parkway and 200 North on I-15, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

Cody Ashment was running on foot across I-15 in the southbound lanes in Kaysville, the news release said.

Ashment was struck by a white BMW driven by a woman; her daughter was a passenger in the car. The BMW was exiting at 200 North from the right lane into the exit lane when the woman struck Ashment in the number three lane.

He was killed on impact, police said. It’s not known at this time why he was attempting to run across the freeway.

The I-15 was partially shut down in that area while the incident was investigated.
