Kaysville Man Accidentally Shoots Self Outside Sandy Gun Show

SANDY, Utah, April 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Kaysville man who attended the Crossroads of the West Gun Show on Saturday returned to his parked vehicle and accidentally shot himself in the leg.

Sgt. Dean Carriger, of the Sandy Police Department, said that about 4:15 p.m., the the 63-year-old Davis County man left the South Towne Expo Center, where the gun show was being held, and returned to his car.

Since personal guns are not permitted inside the center during gun shows, the man had secured his .40 caliber pistol in his vehicle. He retrieved it and was getting ready to put it in his holster when he fired one shot, which hit him the right thigh.

The man was treated on the scene, then taken to Intermountain Healthcare, Carriger said.

The man was alone in the vehicle when the gun discharged. No other injuries were reported, Carriger said.
