LAYTON, UTAH – September 23, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Spokane man who allegedly had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl stabbed himself repeatedly in front of officers last night.

Robert Wayne Folsom survived and was taken to hospital, and subsequently will be served with arrest warrants.

Officials said in a press release a detective from the Spokane Sheriff’s Office notified Layton Police Department they had attempted to do a welfare check on Folsom after receiving a report that he was armed and suicidal. They could not locate him in Spokane, but received information that he may have been at the Park and Ride lot at Antelope Drive and HWY 89 in Layton.

Layton PD had recently investigated a case involving Folsom in which he had allegedly traveled from Spokane to Layton numerous times to engage in sex with a 15 year old girl he had met online. A warrant had been issued in that case for two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, three counts of enticing a minor, dealing in material harmful to a minor and eight counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Layton officers located Folsom in his vehicle at the Park and Ride lot. He refused to get out of his vehicle or comply with officers, so a chemical irritant was introduced into the car, which successfully forced Folsom to exit. Before officers could reach him, Folsom cut and stabbed himself numerous times and was bleeding severely. He was secured and transported via medical helicopter to University of Utah Medical Center.

Police are monitoring Folsom’s condition and will serve the arrest warrants when appropriate.
