TOOELE, Utah, Nov. 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday morning after a car hit him when he was trying to cross State Route 36.

The incident occurred at about 7:05 a.m. on northbound State Route 36 at milepost 65 near Lake Point, just north of Tooele, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Todd Royce told Gephardt Daily.

Royce said the man was trying to cross the street, despite there being no crosswalk, a speed limit of 55 mph and poor lighting, and the driver of the vehicle did not see him and struck him.

The man was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital in “charlie,” or serious condition; his injuries are not life-threatening, Royce said.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and will most likely face no charges or citations as a result of the incident.

One of the two northbound lanes was closed for approximately 30 minutes after the crash.

Officials have not released the identity of the injured man.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
