Update: Provo man who died after shooting in Orem identified

OREM, Utah, Dec. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Provo man who died after being shot Thursday evening near an Orem apartment building has been identified.

The deceased man is Jackson Woodward, 22, according to a Facebook post from Orem Police Department Friday afternoon.

The shooting was first reported at about 6:30 p.m. near the Village Park Apartments, at 1080 N. State St. Police responded to reports that a man had forced his way into another man’s apartment, and were told a single shot had been fired.

The shooting is being looked at as being in defense against a home intruder, police said. Woodward was the man that had forced his way into the apartment.

When police arrived they found a man who had been shot in the chest, later identified as Woodward. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he subsequently died.

A suspect has been taken into custody, and the public is not in danger, police said.

All the people that were involved were interviewed and later released.

Orem Police said the department has been working with the Utah County Attorney’s Office and the case will be screened through them.
