WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 2, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man and a woman have been hospitalized after a domestic shooting in West Valley City.

Lt. Jeff Conger of WVCPD told Gephardt Daily police were called to the Redwood Apartment complex at 4000 S. Redwood Rd. about 7:10 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen sitting on the steps of the apartment complex.

A woman who was believed to be the shooter was found nearby.

Police were first called when neighbors awoke to see the couple wrestling over a pistol in the apartment complex’s yard. Moments later they reported hearing a single gunshot.

The wounded man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in stable condition with what police believe was a non-life threatening injury.

The woman was also taken to IMC complaining of chest pains.

Witnesses told police that after the shooting the wounded man was able to take control of the pistol and tossed it onto the roof of the apartments’ covered parking space.

Firefighters set up a ladder so police could retrieve the weapon, while investigators waited for a search warrant to enter the couple’s apartment.

The police have yet to determine what set off the argument. They say their investigation is continuing.
