Mendon man shoots self after cleaning handgun

MENDON, Utah, Nov. 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Cache County man was transported to a Logan hospital after the loaded gun he was reassembling shot him in the abdomen.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office reported on Friday that 64-year-old Michael Lee Lockhart was cleaning and reassembling a Glock .45 caliber handgun when it fired.

Lockhart called 911, and crews responded to 2460 S. 5900 West, where they found Lockhart and transported him to the hospital Responding agencies were the CCSO, Mendon Cty Fire Department, Cache County EMS Service and Logan Fire Department.

Lockhart’s condition was unknown. The Sheriff’s office news release said it does not plan to file charges.

“We are treating this investigation as an unfortunate accident,” the CCSO statement said. “We do not anticipate any criminal charges will be filed.”
