SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man skiing in a back country area behind Snowbird Resort was caught up in a small avalanche on Tuesday.

The skier had used a helicopter service to drop him in the area, which is not part of Snowbird. The avalanche trapped the man, but did not fully bury him.

According to Lt. Lex Bell, of the Unified Police Department, the 22-year-old skier suffered a leg injury, and was flown by the helicopter service to Snowbird, where he was given initial treatment for his injury.

Bell said on Tuesday afternoon that one officer was headed up to assess the situation, but no more were sent because the rescue operation already was completed.
