HERRIMAN, Utah, May 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital in critical condition Friday night after his bike was rear-ended by an SUV in Herriman.

Unified Police Department Lt. Brian Lohrke said the accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. at 13400 S. 4000 West.

A white SUV and the motorcycle were both eastbound, when the SUV attempted to change lanes.

“The SUV clipped the back end of the motorcycle, sending it off the road,” Lohrke said.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man, was critically injured and was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital, Lohrke said. The man was wearing a helmet and other protective gear.

Lohrke said the driver of the SUV is cooperating with investigators.

Officials will be piecing together all the details of the accident from beginning to end, starting with witness accounts, Lohrke said. They will also look at the road and the skid marks to see where the point of impact was and where the vehicles ended up, in addition to getting measurements to determine the speed at which the vehicles were traveling.

“Everything we need to complete the investigation,” he said.
