SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Oct. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist who was transported to an area hospital in “extremely critical condition” Saturday night has died of his injuries.
South Salt Lake Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Oehler on Sunday released the identity of the victim; Randy James Hoover, 38, of Taylorsville.
Oehler said officers responded on a vehicle vs. motorcycle crash at 1080 W. 3300 South shortly before 8:30 p.m.
The motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet as he headed west on 3300 South, Oehler said.
“The driver of the other vehicle was headed east on 33rd,” Oehler said. “It sounds like, from the initial statements that we have, that the motorcycle may have been traveling above the speed limit. It actually T-boned the SUV that was involved.”
Oehler said it appears that the SUV was turning left into an apartment complex when it was hit by the motorcycle.
Hoover was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Oehler said.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Oehler said there is no indication of impairment on that driver’s part.
A Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to reconstruct the scene and provide police with more details.
“You know,” Oehler said, “a big concern we have at night, especially with motorcyclists, is even though it is legal to not have a helmet on, you’re taking your life in your hands, and it’s a very dangerous risk to do so, as we’ve seen here tonight. We hope this gentleman will pull through.”
About two hours later, Sgt. Oehler sent out a brief news release, saying, “Unfortunately, the motorcyclist has succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital.”
That man randy james hoover was my husband he was head home to be with his wife and children he has a 3yearold son and 2 year old daughter and 13 year old daughter he was a goodman a greatfather a woundful husband everyone talk about no helmet what about suv that need to pay attention people need to start watch for motorcycle my husband was on his way home from work and never made it because a suv was watching what he was doing and now randy james hoover family hurts because they will never be able to see there father and loving husband so maybe people should start paying more attention to the road and motorcycle my family is in so much pain because of one suv that didnt pay attntion I love You Randy James Hoover and miss you so fucking much it hurt so bad
