WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital Saturday night after colliding with a car, and the driver of the car was arrested for hit and run.

The incident happened at 3100 South and 5600 West at about 10:15 p.m., West Valley City Police Lt. Justin Wyckoff told Gephardt Daily.

A man in his 40s was riding a motorcycle north on 5600, when a car turned left in front of him to go east on 3100 South, causing the motorcycle to crash into it.

Wyckoff said the impact threw the motorcyclist over the car. He suffered a broken leg and some facial injuries. The bike was wrecked.

Both vehicles had a green light, Wyckoff said, but the motorcycle had the right of way.

The driver of the car took off; however, police were able to locate him and he was taken into custody for hit and run.

Impairment was not a factor in this crash.

“There have been so many motorcycle accidents this year — so many fatal — everyone really needs to be more careful and watch for motorcycles and other vehicles,” Lt. Wyckoff said.
