NORTH OGDEN DIVIDE, May 23, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A head-on collision closed the North Ogden Divide for about two hours Monday afternoon, after a 16-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle going around a corner.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the teen was driving a Subaru Forester westbound down the divide, about a mile from the top, when he lost control and headed off the road.

A Subaru sedan was traveling up the divide, and the Forester crashed into it head on.

The release states that the impact knocked the sedan off the side of the divide down the steep embankment where it stopped 40 feet down because of a tree. The Forester rolled and came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

The 16-year-old driver and three 15-year-old female passengers all had minor injuries, and two of the girls were transported to the hospital.

The driver of the sedan, a 47-year-old woman, and her 17-year-old son also were injured and were transported to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office said everyone involved is expected to make a full recovery.

Traffic investigators determined that the Forester came around the corner at a high rate of speed, according to the release. The driver was cited for reckless driving involving an accident.

The news release continues:

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office again wants to remind all drivers traveling the North Ogden Divide and Ogden Canyon to obey the speed limit and advisory speeds. Both roadways contain numerous areas with limited shoulders and can be very dangerous. Deputies will be conducting extra patrol for speeders on both roads. We also want to wish a speedy recovery to all those involved.
