Man Shot In Taylorsville Officer-Involved Shooting Identified

WEST JORDAN, Utah, June 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The man shot and critically wounded during a confrontation with a West Jordan police officer early Wednesday morning has been identified.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell told Gephardt Daily, Andrew Jorge Davison Thomas, 24, was one of two men wanted in a shooting at the Barbary Coast Saloon which took place at 4242 S. State Street.

Bell said a man was shot in the leg after an argument inside the bar and that two suspects fled in a silver Hyundai.

Bell said the suspects managed to flee the area only to be spotted a short while later by a West Jordan police officer who was driving on I-215 after having just completed his shift.

The officer followed the suspects to a home at 2456 W. Dutch Draw, 4800 S. where the man believed to be the bar shooter jumped from the car and ran. The West Jordan officer gave chase and moments later gunfire erupted.

Davison was critically wounded and taken Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Lt. Bell said the suspect’s wounds, while serious, do not appear to be life threatening.

The West Jordan officer who shot the suspect was shaken, but unhurt.

Police from multiple agencies set up containment around the Taylorsville neighborhood immediately after the shooting to trying to find the second suspect, but he managed to elude arrest.

Several people thought to be in the West Dutch Draw home where the alleged shooter abandoned his car were being questioned by police. Their connection to the incident remained unclear.

The Officer-Involved Critical Incident Team was called out to investigate the shooting. Lt. Bell said it’s yet to be determined which agency will take the lead in the investigation.

The officer who shot the suspect was placed on paid administrative leave.
