WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, April 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City officer said he witnessed an alleged drive-by shooting as he drove down the street in West Valley Sunday morning.

Lt. Dalan Taylor, West Valley City Police, said the incident happened just after 3 a.m. in the area of 4670 W. 4100 South.

“One of our officers was driving on the same street, but headed in the opposite direction,” Taylor said. “The individuals inside the car were too busy doing what they were doing. They did not notice our patrol officer headed towards them.”

The officer involved said the suspects soon realized that police were there, and they pulled down the street and ran from the car.

“Four of the five individuals believed to be in the car have been detained,” Taylor said. “Alexis Garcia-Alcantar,18, and Jennifer Diego-Rufino,19, were taken into custody at the time of the incident and two others, whose names have not been released, were apprehended later Sunday.

Both Garcia-Alcantar and Diego-Rufino were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of obstruction of justice and consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Taylor said West Valley City police impounded the vehicle and are currently in the process of searching the vehicle for the weapon.
