GRAND COUNTY, Utah, June 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 33-year-old man who died after a fall while rappelling in Grand County Monday.

The deceased is Scott Henning, from Minnesota, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a fall in Moonflower Canyon just before 6:30 p.m., the news release said.

Henning had hiked with a friend to the area above the canyon, officials said, and was rappelling down the cliff and into the canyon. He encountered a problem with his rope and fell approximately 60 feet.

Grand County Search and Rescue and EMS responded to the area of the fall. The terrain made access difficult, the news release said, and Classic Lifeguard assisted in flying EMS to the location.

Henning died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the fall.

Henning was recovered with the assistance of the Department of Public Safety helicopter on Tuesday, and transported to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
