Ogden apartment blaze displaces 8, causes $60K in damages

OGDEN, Utah, July 30, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A blaze in an Ogden apartment building Sunday morning has displaced eight people and caused $60,000 in damages, officials said.

Crews responded to the structure fire, at 544 E. 35th St., at approximately 11:25 a.m., Ogden City deputy fire chief Eric Bauman said in a news release.

Crews made entry into the duplex and found active fire in the attic, the news release said. There were no residents in the building at the time and the blaze was quickly extinguished.

The fire damaged both apartments, and eight occupants are displaced. The
Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the displaced occupants.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by the office of the Ogden City Fire Department Fire Marshal.

Fourteen firefighters responded from Ogden, South Ogden, and Roy Fire
Departments with two ladder trucks, one engine, one ambulance, one paramedic
rescue, and the battalion chief.
