TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH, Nov. 23 (Gephardt Daily) ─ Unified Police Department investigators on Monday identified Tyler Hurt as a person of interest in the hit-and-run accident that on Sunday killed a teenage motorcyclist.

Hurt, 24, has family in the Salt Lake Valley and currently lives in West Jordan, but has not returned home since the accident, according to Lt. Lex Bell, spokesman for the Unified Police Department.

The accident happened at 4710 South 4015 West at about 2:40 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses say rider Edgar Osvaldo Frayre-Rodriguez pulled out of a Chevron where he and others in a group of motorcyclists had stopped.

Frayre-Rodriguez reportedly swung too wide, into the path of oncoming traffic. A man driving a Jeep Cherokee collided with Frayre-Rodriguez, but did not stop at the scene. The victim was wearing a helmet but sustained fatal injures and died at the scene.

Officers located the suspect’s abandoned Jeep Cherokee parked in another Chevron at 5400 South Bangerter Highway.

Early scene analysis indicates that the Jeep probably was not at fault, however, because it fled the scene of a fatal accident, the driver of that Jeep is now facing possibly serious criminal charges, according to Unified Police officials.

Anyone with information regarding Hurt’s whereabouts is asked to contact the UPD at 801-743-7000.
