ALPINE, Utah, Nov. 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Lone Peak Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding an armed man who reportedly sexually assaulted a woman in a church parking lot on Sunday, and police are advising people to be vigilant for their own safety.

The incident happened at about 4 a.m., according to information from the department. Police responded to the scene, at an undisclosed address near North Heritage Hills Drive.

“The female victim reported that she was walking through the parking lot of a church when she was approached from behind by an adult male,” the Lone Peak Police Department statement says.

“It was reported that the subject brandished a knife and took the victim behind a dumpster where the assault occurred. The victim was transported to the hospital by paramedics for injuries sustained during the incident.”

The suspect is described as a male, possibly Hispanic and with an accent. At the time of the attack, he was wearing black pants and a black hoodie, the statement says. The hoodie has a white logo in the shape of a gear sprocket on the left breast.

The suspect left on foot, the statement says. Anybody with information is encouraged to contact the Lone Peak Police Department by calling 801-756-9800.

The police also asked residents to be careful while walking:

“We want to remind people to practice safety while taking walks. Stay in well lit areas, walk in pairs, be aware of your surroundings, carry along a flashlight if walking at night.”
