SANDY, Utah, Dec. 10 (Gephardt Daily) — The “Bucket List Bandit” is behind bars.

That’s what the FBI Robbery Task Force and four area police departments are saying after the Thursday morning arrest of Scot Baker Wilcox, 54, of Sandy.

Tips flowed in Wednesday after safety officials shared surveillance-camera images of a suspect, taken at some of the locations police believe were robbed by the same middle-aged man.

Officers dubbed the suspect the “Bucket List Bandit” because of his age and the varied list of places he robbed.

Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department on Thursday announced the arrest in a news release.

“Detectives and agents from the FBI Robbery Task Force, Murray P.D., Sandy P.D., Draper P.D. and the Unified P.D. received multiple tips from media viewers who recognized Mr. Wilcox in the surveillance photos released on Wednesday,” Bell said in the prepared statement. “Through some investigation, detectives found enough probable cause to arrest Mr. Wilcox.”

Detectives surrounded Wilcox’ home early Thursday morning, and took him into custody without incident, Bell said.

“A search warrant was obtained for the residence and evidence linking him to multiple robberies was recovered. Scot B. Wilcox was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple charges of robbery and aggravated robbery.”

Detectives believe Wilcox robbed the Hampton Inn, in Sandy, on Nov. 4; Staybridge Suites, Midvale, on Nov. 9; Wells Fargo inside Fresh Market, Murray, on Nov. 10; U.S. Bank inside Smith’s, Sandy, on Dec. 7; and America First Credit Union inside Harmons, Draper, 15 minutes after the Sandy robbery, on Dec. 7.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying this individual,” Bell said in the statement.

“If viewers had not recognized Mr. Wilcox, there is a very good chance he would still be free tonight and may have continued to commit violent crimes. Also, thank you to all the media outlets for their help in broadcasting the surveillance photos and description.”
