MILLCREEK, UTAH – November 9, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Unified Police Department has arrested a suspect and his wife after a week-long search that stemmed from a “shots fired” incident in Millcreek.

According to Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson, Christopher John McMillan, 43, and his wife, Veronica McMillan, 43, were arrested early Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m., after receiving information they were staying at a motel in the area of 7200 South 400 West.

“Metro Gang Unit, West Valley Detectives and K-9 units surrounded the suspected location and were able to confirm he was inside the unit with his wife,” said Richardson. “Christopher McMillan attempted to escape by trying to kick in the adjoining door to another motel room but was unsuccessful.”

Richardson said the suspect surrendered without incident and both Christopher McMillan and his wife were taken into custody. “We are first very thankful to have him off the streets, he has had a lot of things going on in a short amount of time,” said Richardson. “We are also happy to know she is safe, however, due to the fact she was with him and had time to make phone calls, get away or turn herself in, she was booked into jail for harboring a fugitive and she also had a controlled substance in her possession.”

The hunt for Christopher McMillan and his wife stemmed from a call to Unified Police dispatchers on October 30, 2015 around 2 p.m. on reports of gunshots in the area of 1975 East Millbrook Drive (3545 South). According to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell, both callers said they heard around ten shots and one reported someone on a balcony of the residence with a gun.

Officers arrived and surrounded the home and set up a containment around the immediate area as officers tried contacting anyone who may be inside. When nobody answered, a SWAT team was called to the scene.

Out of concern that someone could possibly have been shot inside the residence, Lt. Bell said police obtained a search warrant and entered the home at around 7:30 p.m. No one was found inside and the scene was cleared by 8:30 p.m.

It was later learned that Christopher McMillan and his brother had gotten into an argument in the home while Veronica McMillan waited outside in a car. Christopher McMillan left the apartment at some point and went down to the car. The brother told officers he then heard three gunshots from the area of the car and ran to his door to see what had happened when he was greeted by Christopher McMillan holding a gun. There was a struggle over the gun and Christopher McMillan shot at his brother, hitting him in the foot. Christopher McMillan then left the scene with his wife and had not been seen until they were found Sunday.

According to Lt. Bell, the victim also told officers Christopher McMillan was high on meth and bath salts and said he was ‘going to kill someone’, so initially officers were concerned about the safety of his wife.

Lt. Bell said Christopher McMillan has a very extensive and violent criminal history and is a member of a violent white supremacist prison gang. “He has been involved in shootings with police in the past,” Bell said. “UPD considered him extremely dangerous and a serious threat to the public and any police officer with whom he comes in contact.”

Christopher McMillan was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for attempted murder, aggravated burglary, felony discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. He was also currently on felony probation with Adult Probation and Parole at the time of arrest.

Christopher McMillan is also currently being held on theft charges for his alleged role in the theft of over $50,000 in fur coats on October 22, 2015 in Park City.
