TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, Dec. 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who police say appeared to be running across a busy street to catch a bus was struck and killed Friday morning in Taylorsville.

Police have identified the victim as 53-year-old Homero Lara-Chicato.

Detective Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department, said the accident happened just before 7 a.m., when it was still dark. Lara-Chicato was wearing dark clothing when he crossed Redwood Road near 6200 South between intersections.

“He was hit in the center northbound lane, and that knocked him into the bus,” which was stationary, Hansen said. “He kind of rolled into the crosswalk.”

Lara-Chicato died at the scene.

Hansen said officers had been interviewing both the driver of the SUV that struck the victim and the driver of the bus. Hansen speculated that charges would not be filed.

An accident investigation team remained on the scene to take photos and measurements, Hansen said, so a model could be made and officers could be certain they understood what had happened.

“In about a week or two, they’ll put it all together, and they’ll have all the answers on how the accident happened.”
