Police ID Provo man dead after auto-pedestrian crash

PROVO, Utah, July 4, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Provo police have identified a 56-year-old man who was killed in an auto-pedestrian crash late Tuesday night.

First responders were called to 750 W. Center St. on a report that a vehicle that had collided with a pedestrian at approximately 11:34 p.m., Provo Police Department said in a news release on Facebook.

An 18-year-old man was driving a silver Volkswagen Passat westbound in the left lane of Center Street, the news release said. Mark Olsen was crossing the street west of the crosswalk at 800 West when the collision occurred.

Olsen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the police investigation.

“Because there were no witnesses on scene, Provo’s Traffic Accident Team is currently reconstructing the accident and investigating all the facts that were gathered on scene,” the news release said. “Evidence is currently being processed as well. Once we have obtained all results, we’ll provide an update of our findings.”
