MIDVALE, Utah, Jan. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man died after he was struck by a car near 8000 South and 300 East late Monday night.

Unified Police Department Lt. Paul Barker said the fatal auto-pedestrian accident happened just after 10 p.m.

Officers from Unified Police and Sandy Police Department responded, along with personnel from Unified Fire Authority. The location of the accident, on the north side of the street, meant that UPD would handle the investigation.

The Mustang that struck the man stopped a little farther down 8000 South, Barker said, and the driver was being interviewed by police.

When the victim was struck, he was thrown from the point of impact onto a nearby parked car. UFA medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man did not survive.

Barker noted that the victim was not in a crosswalk and, although there are street lights in the area, they aren’t very bright.

He said the investigation is still in the very early stages. Police were still in the process of identifying the victim and determining exactly how the accident happened.
