Police: Man in custody after stabbing gas station store clerk in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in custody after police say he stabbed a store clerk in a West Valley City Maverik early Monday morning.

The suspect has been identified as Edwin Ogando, 33, West Valley City Police tweeted.

The incident happened at the gas station at 3112 S. Redwood Road at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to the WVCPD.

Police received multiple calls of a “disturbance” at the location. Before officials arrived, Ogando reportedly walked into the store and stabbed the female clerk multiple times.

There were two men in the store who said they were able to pull the suspect off the victim and detain him until police arrived.

A K-9 unit was used to assist with the arrest as the suspect was not cooperating.

The victim was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital in stable condition.

Ogando was treated for injuries he sustained during the arrest and then booked into jail.
