SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – September 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Salt Lake City police are investigating a “stabbing” at West High School.

School officials say the assault took place when two students started fighting just before classes began Thursday morning.

Assistant principal Jeremy Chatterton said the students were squaring off when one stabbed the other in the neck with a pen.  A nearby student intervened and the suspect stabbed them in the back of the head with the same pen.

“One student went up to another student and got in his face a little bit, the one student turned and asked him what was going on,” Chatterton said. “The first student had a pen and used it to stab him, an altercation started from there and a couple of other students got involved.”

Two students were hurt, but their injuries were minor.

The students involved in the altercation were released to their parents.

Chatterton said police will be reviewing school cameras, but it is too early to say whether any charges will be filed.
