SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police officers responded to reports of a fight at West High School on Friday afternoon.

The first word of trouble came at 2:20 p.m. from an officer at the school who put out an urgent “officer needs assistance” call, saying there were multiple students fighting. She asked the call be “expedited.”

Every available unit responded to the school at 241 N. 300 West, and within a few minutes a half-dozen patrol officers were on the scene.

According to SLCPD, the fight broke out in the aftermath of an annual competition called the Spirit Bowl — an event open only to West High students.

The fight ended as quickly as it began. There were no reports of serious injuries.

A police spokesman told Gephardt Daily the incident was being handled as a school matter and that charges were unlikely.

West High and most other schools across the Valley are scheduled to be on spring break next week.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as information becomes available.

  1. there was no football game. It’s called spirit bowl and it’s between every high school school class at the school.

  2. Good thing it wasn’t a fight between a single student. I’ll bet the backup cops weren’t called to a fight that “ended as quickly as it began” at any other school, nor would it be reported here.
