Police search for suspects after man shot in shoulder in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for two suspects after a man was shot in the shoulder at a West Valley City intersection early Wednesday morning.

The 34-year-old victim and a second man were driving down 1315 West and had stopped at a red light near 4100 South just after 3:20 a.m., according to West Valley City Police Department spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

Police said a beige or cream car occupied by two Hispanic men pulled up next to the victim’s car, an altercation of some sort occurred, and the victim was shot in the left shoulder.

The suspects drove away and the victim’s passenger drove him to an area hospital. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, and he was released from the hospital.

The victim told officers the suspects were not known to him.

Investigators have been canvassing the area for evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses.

Investigators are working to determine a possible motive for the shooting. At this time, no credible connection has been established to link this crime to gang or drug activity.
