WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 6, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) ─ Members of a Las Vegas-based search and rescue group are following up on what they are calling “a possible credible sighting” of missing St. George teenager Macin Smith in West Valley City.

This latest lead comes after countless other sightings that have not panned out.

The 17-year-old walked away from his family’s St. George home in early September and has not been heard from since.

Speaking exclusively to Gephardt Daily, Dave Cummings, of Red Rock Search and Rescue, said he liked what he heard in the interview with a security person who says they saw Macin.

“There were a couple of statements made that were pretty solid,” Cummings said. He added that if this latest sighting is Macin, he likely looks quite different than the boy who went missing.

“We are talking about 90 days growth of hair,” he said.

Macin’s mom, Tracey Bratt Smith, said the family is cautiously optimistic. “Always optimistic, but proceeding cautiously,” she said. “We as a family are hopeful that any leads will possibly produce proof that Macin is out there, somewhere.”

Macin was last seen in the Little Valley area of St. George on the morning of Sept. 1 when he left for school. He left home without his wallet and cell phone, and has not logged into social media since his disappearance. He did leave a note, but its contents have not been publicly disclosed.

Macin is 6-feet-4-inches and 200 pounds, has blue eyes, and had short blond hair when he went missing.
