PROVO, Utah, Jan. 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Reservations are open for the free public open house at the Provo City Center Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The open house period runs Jan. 15 through March 5, Mondays through Saturdays. To request reservations, click here or call 855-537-2000. The temple is at 50 S. University Ave.

The Provo City Center Temple is on the site of the former Provo Tabernacle, built in 1898. On Dec. 17, 2010, the building was gutted by fire.

According to the LDS Church news website, church president Thomas S. Monson announced in October 2011 that the fire-damaged Provo Tabernacle would be converted into Provo’s second temple. Ground was broken for construction on May 12, 2012.

As part of temple festivities, a cultural celebration is planned for March 19, prior to the temple’s formal dedication.

That dedication will take place in three sessions: at 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. March 20. It will be broadcast to Utah LDS meetinghouses.
