SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Police were checking the area near 1814 West and 1450 North for evidence following multiple calls of “shots fired” Tuesday night.

SLCPD Lt. Mark Buhman said the calls started coming in at about 8:30 p.m. from the area between Redwood and 1900 West and “anywhere from about 14th North to 1600 North.”

“Around 1500 North and Mandalay, we found several shell casings in the street — probably 20 or more,” Buhman said.

Police do not know who or what was shot at, Buhman said, and there was no evidence of bullet holes in nearby cars or homes.

No victims had been reported turning up at area hospitals, either, Buhman said.

Asked what witnesses reported hearing, Buhman replied, “A lot of gunshots, a lot of gunshots.”

The calls about shots fired were received about an hour after an officer-involved shooting in West Valley City, in which an officer and two juveniles were wounded. That incident was still being investigated late into Tuesday night.

Lt. Buhman said there is no reason to believe the shots fired in Salt Lake City are in any way connected to the West Valley City shootings.

The Crime Scene Investigation team was documenting evidence in the area, and officers were interviewing witnesses.
