WEST JORDAN, Utah, June 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Seven people received only minor injuries after being involved in a serious collision Sunday afternoon in West Jordan.

Officer Nelson Vargas, of the West Jordan Police, said his office received the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. regarding a rollover at the intersection of 5600 West 7800 South.

“When we arrived we found a Suburban that had impacted a sedan as it approached the intersection, and rolled,” Vargas said. “Six people, all young adults, were in the Suburban and one person, I believe a juvenile male, was in the sedan.”

Vargas said preliminary investigation appears to show the driver of the sedan was attempting a left turn onto 5600 West from 7800 South, and turned in front of a Suburban headed East on 7800 South.

The Suburban’s female driver, who had to be extricated, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, along with one of her passengers. Their injuries were not life threatening.

The driver of the sedan was later taken to the hospital by his family as a precaution.

“The sedan was impacted towards the rear of the vehicle, and had it been hit closer to the driver’s seat, we could have been looking at a different outcome,” Vargas said. “We are thankful no one was sitting in the back seat of his car.”

The accident is still under investigation, but, Vargas said it appears all seven people were wearing their seat belts. Vargas said the driver of the sedan appears to have been distracted by something, and impairment is not a factor.
