Severe weather, damaging winds, hail blowing in Northern Utah; winter storm bearing down

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a series of severe weather watches and warnings for much of Northern Utah.

At 11:54 a.m. Friday a line of severe thunderstorm with winds in excess of 60 mph blew across the Salt Lake Valley into Weber, Davis, Morgan, Wasatch and Summit counties.

Tooele County and parts of northwestern Utah, were also affected.

A mix of rain, hail and snow was reported across the Salt Lake Valley and a winter storm warning has also been issued for much of the state.

Heavy snow fall of 18 to 24 inches is expected in the higher elevations, although some snow is expected to reach the valley floors along the I-15 from Cedar City to the Idaho border.

The weather front is expected to pass through the area Saturday morning with snowfall diminishing overnight.
