VENICE, UTAH, November 23, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) ─ One man is dead and another arrested for murder after an alleged altercation between neighbors in Sevier County Sunday afternoon.
According to Sevier County Sheriff Nathan J. Curtis, deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired in Venice. When emergency crews arrived, they found 36-year-old David Rioja on the ground, unresponsive. Deputies immediately started CPR, but Rioja died at the scene of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
While deputies were processing the scene, dispatchers received a call from 39-year-old William Muir, also of Venice, who said he had been assaulted at the same address Rioja was found.
Deputies said Muir made statements that indicated he may have been involved in the shooting. During a search of Muir’s residence they recovered a revolver and other evidence that led to the arrest of Muir.
Muir was booked into the Sevier County Jail on first-degree murder charges.
