PAYSON, Utah, Jan. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were involved in a shoot-out in a residential neighborhood Monday night. A woman also was struck.

Payson Police Chief Brad Bishop said the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m., when police were alerted to a shooting in progress.

Bishop said officials haven’t pinned down the exact nature of the argument, but officers arrived to find that the two men had exchanged at least 10 to 15 pistol shots in the street and were both wounded.

They were taken to the hospital in Payson with serious, but not critical, injuries and were still undergoing treatment in the early hours Tuesday.

The woman struck by a stray bullet suffered only a minor injury and was treated and released.

Bishop said a male and the female victims are family members of a nearby homeowner, and a few people who were in the home probably saw at least part of what happened. It’s also possible that a couple of neighbors witnessed something.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the incident or who has surveillance video to contact the Payson PD.

In addition to the Payson officers, deputies from Utah County Sheriff’s Office, and police from Spanish Fork, Salem and Santaquin responded to the scene.

“With officers at the hospital and at the scene, it takes quite a bit of manpower,” Bishop said.

Regarding the fact that 10 to 15 rounds were fired and each man was hit only once, Bishop said, “They’re horrible shots. We’re lucky more people weren’t hit.”
