BRIGHTON, Utah, Jan. 15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two skiers in a single day have been flown to an area hospital after reportedly striking trees at Brighton Ski Resort.

Unified Police Department tweeted just before 4 p.m. Sunday that a female in her early 20s had hit a tree, and is in serious condition.

The department tweeted she has non life-threatening head and hip injuries.

Just before noon, another skier, a man in his mid 30s, was flown from the mountain in Big Cottonwood Canyon in a LifeFlight helicopter, said UPD spokesman Eric Holmes. No one witnessed the accident, but Holmes said due to facial swelling, it is thought the skier also hit a tree.

Holmes said the man’s helmet was found by a skier near a main run, and then skiers looked around the area and found the man near a tree. It is thought the skier was within bounds, Holmes said.

The skier was unconscious when found.

UPD said in a tweet that the man was skiing with a friend, but the friend did not witness the accident.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
