SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Forty firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at a Salt Lake City reception center in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Audra Sorensen, public information officer for the Salt Lake City Fire Department, told Gephardt Daily dispatchers received a call at approximately 1:40 a.m., that there was “heavy smoke,” coming from a commercial building located at 309 W. 1500 South.

Crews arrived within five minutes to find the M&M Reception Center and its adjoining warehouse on fire.

Nearly 40 firefighters responded, working for about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

“Fortunately we were able to get it out within under an hour,” Sorensen said. “The damage is pretty extensive but we don’t know yet if the building is a complete loss.”

No one was injured, and no one was in the building at the time of the incident.

The cause, origin and cost of damage to the structure is still under investigation, Sorensen said.

300 West was shut down for about two hours to allow investigators to complete their work, but was reopened in time for the early morning commute.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
