ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A St. George woman was arrested after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a truck from the driveway.

A probable statement from the 5th District Court of Washington County said Mandy Lynn, 37, is facing charges of:

  • Theft, a second-degree felony
  • Burglary, a second-degree felony
  • Two charges of possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor

On Wednesday, the arresting officer was dispatched to a residential burglary call at 37 E. 750 South in St. George, the statement said. It was reported that there were two people in the home while the homeowners were on vacation.

When the officer arrived, a female, subsequently identified as Lynn, was being detained in the backyard.

Lynn was detained by officials and the arresting officer made contact with the homeowners’ two sons, who told officials that their sister called them, saying there were two people inside their parents’ home. They then told the officer that their father’s truck was missing out of the driveway, and the back door was broken into.

The brothers also said that Lynn had been having a relationship with another of their brothers, while her boyfriend was in jail.

The arresting officer then spoke with the female homeowner, who said she had not given Lynn permission to be in the house.

“I asked her if Mandy ever stayed there,” the statement said. “She said in the past, but she did not pay or help with anything. The female homeowner stated that she was just trying to help her son out.”

The arresting officer then interviewed Lynn after reading her her Miranda rights.

“She told me she came over this morning around 5 a.m. and went through the back door,” the statement said. “Mandy stated the door had a bar in it to keep people out. Mandy informed me that she cracked the door and moved the bar, and walked into the house. She informed me that she collected some of her things in bags and was about to leave when we arrived.” Lynn said she did not take the vehicle.

Shortly after that, the arresting officer received photos from the neighbor’s video surveillance.

“The images were of a female driving away in the truck,” the statement said. “The female that was in the driver seat looked similar to Mandy by her hairstyle.”

Lynn then admitted to coming into the house and taking the vehicle without the homeowners’ permission. She stated she got the vehicle key from inside the house. She said she left the vehicle behind Kmart on Bluff Street in St. George. The vehicle was located there.

Officers also searched Lynn’s bags and located syringes, methamphetamine, and heroin.

The felonies were committed when she was out on probation or parole.

The suspect was transported to Washington County Jail with her bail set at $20,000.
