TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A student may be facing charges after being found with a gun at Stansbury High School Friday morning, officials said.

Tooele County School District officials said in a news release on Facebook that before the school, at 5300 Aberdeen Lane, began for the day, a student was found by other teens to be in possession of a firearm.

“School administrators and the Tooele County Sheriff’s department school resource officer immediately took action and the student was removed from the building,” the news release said. “The gun had not been brandished on campus and was not loaded. There is no threat at the school and no one was injured.”

The news release added the district is grateful for the quick response from police and school administration, as well as “the students who notified administration of the potential threat. We commend the students who brought this information forward. They are a valuable part of keeping our schools safe.”

The student has been suspended and may be facing charges.

The gender and age of the student was not disclosed.
