WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 13, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley City police have a man in custody following a high-speed chase late Sunday night.

WVC Police Lt. Colleen Nolen told Gephardt Daily that an officer noticed a red Chevy truck driving erratically, and when he ran the license plate, it came up as a stolen vehicle.

The suspect fled, and a pursuit ensued, beginning at about 2300 West and 4700 South. The suspect then headed for Interstate 215, went along the bottom of the belt route and got onto Interstate 15.

Lt. Nolen said the suspect lost control of the vehicle at 4500 South and went over the median.

“He didn’t necessarily crash,” Nolen said, “but kind of spun out, like he lost his engine.”

During the pursuit, speeds reached as high as 90 mph on the freeway.

“Fortunately, the weather was good, there was hardly any traffic, and no pedestrians,” Nolen said.

The suspect was the only person in the truck, and Nolen said he “has some history,” but she didn’t have any details about his previous brushes with the law.

Utah Highway Patrol assisted the West Valley City officers in apprehending the suspect.
