WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 2, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two suspects were taken into custody early Saturday morning, and a vehicle was recovered shortly after it was reported stolen, thanks to a sharp-eyed West Valley City Police officer.

WVCPD Lt. Steve Burke told Gephardt Daily the word had just gone out about a stolen truck, when an officer spotted the vehicle.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the truck fled and a three- to four-minute pursuit ensued.

Other officers responded, and the chase ended at 3115 W. Lehman Ave., where the suspects abandoned the vehicle.

“The truck turned down a dead-end street and came to a stop at a fence,” Burke said, standing near the termination point. “One suspect jumped the fence and ran into an apartment complex to the north. The other hid in this carport.”

Burke said both suspects, men in their early 20s, were captured.

“The K9 guys did dog tracks from the vehicle right to the suspects, so we’re confident we got both.”

No one was injured and the truck wasn’t damaged.

Even sweeter, it was entered into the system as a stolen vehicle at 12:36 a.m., the officer saw it at 12:47 a.m., and less than an hour later, the truck’s owner was driving it back home.
