Suspects lead West Valley police on chase in stolen car

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley City Police are searching for a pair of suspects who fled in a stolen pickup truck early Monday morning.

The incident began when a police officer observed an early 2000s model F-150 pickup truck traveling with no visible rear plate in the area of 3335 W. 3100 South at approximately 1:30 a.m., WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku told Gephardt Daily.

The police officer attempted a traffic stop on the truck, and the driver turned off the vehicle lights and fled into the neighborhood north of 3100 South at approximately 2900 West, Vainuku said. The officer did not pursue and lost sight of the truck.

Assisting officers in the area canvassed the neighborhood and located the truck abandoned in the middle of the road at approximately 2795 W. Lemay Ave. The engine of the truck was still running.

A neighbor in the area observed two suspects flee on foot from the vehicle. Containment was established and K-9 units deployed, however the suspects were not located.

The vehicle, which was was discovered stolen out of West Valley, was released to the registered owner.

WVCPD is asking anyone who might have information about the case to call police at 801-840-4000. Tips can be made anonymously.
