TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, Aug. 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Four Taylorsville High School students suffered minor injuries Tuesday after the battery pack of a small electronic device exploded in a student’s backpack.

The injuries included minor burns and minor smoke inhalation. The incident happened at about 9:45 a.m. in a classroom at Taylorsville High, at 5225 S. Redwood Road, the Granite School District said in a Facebook post.

“The students were treated by paramedics on scene and released back to class with the permission of their parents,” the news release said. “Student safety is always our paramount concern. We are still investigating the device, but it is clear that this was not an intentional act and school is proceeding as normal.

“If you are a parent or guardian of a THS student, you should receive notification via email and phone. Please contact the school directly if you have any questions about your child.
Thanks for your support as we work to keep kids safe.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed what the small electronic device that exploded was.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
