WEST HAVEN, Utah, Dec. 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were arrested Sunday after they were seen stealing from a storage yard, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the sheriff’s office says Weber County deputies were dispatched on Christmas Day to a West Haven storage yard, where yard security saw the two men on camera stealing items from vehicles and trailers.

Deputies arrived and began a search of the yard.

“K-9 Corporal Dalton and his police service dog Diko carefully came around a corner and spotted one of the men stealing a battery,” according to the Facebook post.

When Dalton identified himself and the dog, and told the suspect to get to the ground, the man decided to run rather than surrender.

“He didn’t get far. Diko caught up to him a very short distance away and after a quick latch onto his lower leg, the man was subdued by Deputies,” the post states.

Diko then tracked the second man the cameras had spotted and led deputies to a trailer where he indicated that the man was inside.

“Deputies and Diko entered the trailer when Diko indicated on the bathroom door. Commands were given and the male came out with his hands up. He later told Deputies that he had watched what happened to his friend when he ran and thought coming out was his best option,” according to the post.

The two men, Scott Spencer, 34, and Michael Jenkins, 37, were booked into the Weber County Correctional Facility on multiple charges.
